Do you know Jesus?
Do you know Jesus?

We just commemorated Resurrection Day in such a special way. We were invited
to our friend’s house a few hours away to witness and celebrate their decision as a
family to follow Christ and demonstrate that commitment with water baptism. It was
such a special and holy moment and as the tears flowed I remembered the prayers I
had prayed and the ones I had shared with my dear friend for her family. God is SO
GOOD!
As I reflected on that experience the next day, the Holy Spirit began speaking
into my heart about the importance of making sure our loved ones know who Jesus is.
My sweet friend had continued to push her little family to get up in the mornings and go
to church. She had modeled what it meant to be a woman of God and faith as she
prayed for her spouse and her children. As she sought out Godly connections with
believers, she multiplied the praying power in favor of her little family. And God honored
that commitment.
In the past, I have been guilty of not having conversations with my children or
extended family about Christ. When I first became a mom at twenty-one, it was to six
bonus children. While I would take them to church on the weekends we had them, I did
not often engage in those conversations that would have led to deeper meaning and
understanding of the goodness of God. I am ashamed to admit, I left the church in
charge of my children’s spiritual awareness.
As they got older and I gave birth to two more, I was somewhat more purposeful
in my task of raising them. We had dinner around the table and we prayed together. As
they encountered difficult situations in life I may discuss scripture, but often I would
direct them to something to read. It hurts me to confess that today most of my grown
children know that God exists but they struggle with being able to defend their faith in a
world that absolutely wants to tear it apart.
Last year, we were incredibly blessed by the opportunity for me to teach at our
local Classical Christian Academy. This provided the opportunity for my youngest two
children to also attend. What a difference! I have watched them grow leaps and bounds
in their faith and understanding of scripture. They have convictions that are solid and
rooted in the Word. They are learning to defend their faith well, as well as share who
God is. We now have incredible family discussions that center on what God is doing in
their lives. Wow!
I don’t say any of this to brag. Obviously, this is all God’s doing. In fact, what it
has taught me is that I should have been preparing my children for this long, long ago. I
never should have put so much weight on the church that only sees them once a week,
maybe twice if they attend Youth Group, and a week of summer camp, and call that
sufficient exposure. I should have done better. And I know I’m not the only one.
I write this as an encouragement. Are you reading the signs? The days are
getting darker. The enemy is coming for our children. Just as in the days of Moses and
of Jesus when Satan specifically attacked the children of a generation because he knew
that deliverers were being brought up, he is coming for our babies. God has proclaimed
that in the last days, there would be a mighty outpouring of His Spirit. The enemy is
doing everything in his power to stop it.
I challenge you to look into your own family, your friends, and your neighbors.
Who do you know that needs hope? Who do you see that could use some faith-
strengthening encouragement? Do you know Jesus? Share your testimony. Tell them
about what He has done in your life. If you’ve never done this before, I encourage you
to write it out. Peter explains to “worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks
about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.” (1 Peter 3:15).
We have to stop living in fear of what the culture is doing and saying. There is a
world of dead people out there. They are lost. They are confused. They are hurting and
desperate, latching on to any new fad that will give them some sense of identity. As
believers, however, we have the antidote to this sickness. We have the cure! We cannot
afford to be selfish or afraid any longer! Ask the Holy Spirit for boldness in this hour. Fill
our hearts with the Word of God and allow it to overflow into the lives of those around
us. Silver and gold you may not have, but what you do have, give to those in need. We
are created for such a time as this!
I pray that as we transition into this new season of life, we have an awareness
that is not numbed by the passage of time or the pressure of busyness. Let us stay
watchful and ready. May we be good stewards of the treasure that has been entrusted
to us. It is time to rise up mighty men and women of God- mothers and fathers, aunts
and uncles, and grandparents. It is time for us to share the light in this very dark world.
Take up your armor. Do you know Jesus? Let’s reintroduce him!
